Peter Lovisek
Peter Lovisek is the founder and director of Fossil Realm, a natural history brokerage and advisory practice established in 2002. For more than two decades, he has worked with private collectors, families, institutions, designers, and advisors to source, evaluate, and place exceptional fossils, meteorites, and minerals.
Raised in a family deeply interested in natural history, Peter began collecting and trading fossils at a young age. That early fascination developed into a career built around connoisseurship, provenance research, market knowledge, and long-term relationships.
His work involves assessing authenticity, condition, restoration, legal context, documentation, rarity, and market position. Just as important is the question of fit: why a particular specimen belongs in a particular collection, and whether it will continue to matter over time.
Specimens placed through Fossil Realm have entered private collections internationally and institutions including CosmoCaixa in Barcelona, the University of Waterloo Earth Sciences Museum, and the Museo delle Culture in Lugano. Fossil Realm also contributed a specimen featured in an exhibition at the Hong Kong Science Museum.
Peter has provided commentary to international media including BBC News, CNN, The New York Times, The Times of London, Canadian Family Offices, Khaleej Times, and Global News. His commentary focuses on the fossil market, provenance, responsible collecting, valuation, and the changing place of natural history within private and institutional collections.
While exceptional specimens can have significant financial value, Peter’s advisory approach is centred on quality, authenticity, documentation, long-term relevance, and stewardship rather than short-term speculation.
Alongside his advisory work, he writes about the evolution of the natural history market, including its increasing professionalization, its limitations as an investment category, and the responsibilities that accompany ownership of important specimens.
