From an early fascination to a life in natural history
Peter grew up around the Toronto Nature Centre, founded by his parents in 1984. Fossils, minerals and natural history objects were not distant museum curiosities; they were part of everyday life. That environment shaped both his curiosity and his conviction that scientific seriousness and genuine wonder need not exist in opposition.
What began as an online business selling natural history specimens gradually developed into the gallery, brokerage and advisory practice Fossil Realm is today. Over more than two decades, Peter has developed an approach grounded in close examination, clear documentation and long-term relationships.
“While rarity matters, rarity alone does not define significance.”
Authenticity, condition, preparation and restoration, provenance, ownership and export documentation, and market position all matter. Where a question requires scientific, legal or conservation expertise, an outside specialist may be consulted. But these considerations are not the whole story. Peter is equally interested in why one specimen sustains attention while another, despite impressive statistics, does not.
