Collections Built with Discernment and Perspective

Fossil Realm works primarily with private collectors seeking fossils, meteorites, and minerals of genuine significance, while also undertaking selected assignments with institutions and professional advisers.

Our work centres on thoughtful collection development, private sourcing, independent acquisition review, and the discreet placement of important natural-history material.

The goal is coherence over accumulation: collections that hold their character across time, and objects whose significance deepens with sustained attention.

The practice is built around relationships rather than volume. Many significant pieces are placed privately rather than publicly offered, and access often depends on trust developed over time within a specialist market.

Fossil Realm advises on collection development and individual acquisitions, evaluates proposed purchases, sources specimens privately, and offers selected material directly. We may also assist with the discreet placement of significant objects between private owners, collectors, and institutions.

Assignments may encompass specimen evaluation, provenance research, condition and restoration review, market analysis, acquisition strategy, documentation, specialist coordination, placement, and longer-term collection planning.

Each engagement is led personally by founder Peter Lovisek, drawing on more than two decades of experience in the natural-history market. Where warranted by the specimen or transaction, Fossil Realm may consult an independent scientific, technical, conservation, or legal specialist.

Fossil Realm may offer specimens from its own holdings, represent material on behalf of others, or source independently for a client. Where we have a financial interest in a specimen, that role is made clear.

Every specimen acquired through Fossil Realm is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Condition reports and supporting records are available upon request, with documentation proportionate to the specimen and acquisition. Higher-value acquisitions typically proceed under a separate purchase agreement setting out the specimen, price, payment, documentation, transport, and other agreed terms. Our standards are described in greater detail on our Authenticity & Integrity page.

How an Engagement Begins

Every engagement is shaped by the object, the client, and the circumstances. Not every assignment requires each stage or proceeds to a transaction; the scope is agreed at the outset.

01

Initial Discussion

We begin by understanding the proposed acquisition, collection objective, independent acquisition review, or private placement, together with the relevant priorities, timing, and context.

02

Assessment and Strategy

We agree on an appropriate scope. This may involve private sourcing, market assessment, provenance and condition review, market-channel advice, or an assessment of how a specimen fits within a broader collection.

03

Acquisition or Placement

Once a direction is agreed, Fossil Realm can, where appropriate, coordinate the transaction, supporting documentation and transport, and remain available after the acquisition or placement is complete.

An Independent Acquisition Review is available to buyers considering a specimen offered by another party. In this capacity, Fossil Realm has no ownership, representation, or other financial interest in the transaction. Depending on the scope and available evidence, the review may consider apparent quality and preparation, restoration, provenance and documentation, relevant market comparables, and an indicated value range. Remote review is standard; physical inspection may be arranged separately where practical. The service is not a formal appraisal or legal opinion. Read the practical guide.
