Fossil Fish, Phareodus testis

This is a magnificent fossil fish specimen. Phareodus is a relative of present day Arowana. It is among the rarer species of fish in the Green River Formation. Interestingly, Phareodus fossils have even been found with small fish preserved in their mouths or stomachs.

It swam in ancient Eocene lakes in Wyoming, USA, 50 million years ago. They were discovered in the famous Green River Formation, which is known to produce some of the most spectacular vertebrate fossils in the world.

Hours of painstaking work by a professional fossil preparator was needed to uncover the fine bones of this fossil from the stone.

The slab of stone measures 18” x 11” x 1" and weighs 14 lbs. Large fish measures 12 inches long.

Bespoke wall mount and stand included.
