Sapphire crystals of this quality in matrix are rarely encountered — most corundum from the Himalayan belt reaches the market as loose cut stones, the matrix long discarded. This specimen preserves the full geological context: blue sapphire crystals emerging from schist formed under the same tectonic compression that built the Himalayas over millions of years.

The locality — Ekhabu, Taplejung, in the shadow of Kanchenjunga — is among the most remote and geologically significant sapphire sources in the world. The verticality of the piece and its natural sculptural form give it an presence that extends well beyond its mineralogical interest.
