This wonderfully preserved fossil march fly (Plecia sp.) was found in the world-famous Crato Formation, near Ceara, Brazil. It dates back to the Lower Cretaceous Period - 110 million years ago. The level of detail is excellent and there is absolutely no restoration. All fossils in Brazil are now protected and ineligible for export, making this an incredibly rare piece.
Marchfly measures .35 inches (.9 cm) long and .5 inches (1.3 cm) wide.
Matrix measures 4 inch (10.1 cm) long.
