This is a breathtaking mural with seven beautiful fossil fish (of several different species), including 1 rare Phareodus,3 Diplomystus, 2 Knightia and 1 Priscacara.

These fish swam in ancient Eocene lakes in Wyoming, USA, 50 million years ago. They were discovered in the famous Green River Formation, which is known to produce some of the most spectacular vertebrate fossils. Interestingly, predatory Phareodus and Diplomystus have even been found with small fish preserved in their mouths!

Phareodus is one of the rarer types of fish found in the Green River Formation and this prime example has phenomenal details, including wonderfully preserved teeth.

Diplomystus is an extinct member of the family that including herrings. Its upturned mouth was used to feed on surface fish

Priscacara is an extinct perch, characterized by its spines.

Knightia is small schooling fish and an extinct member of the family that includes herrings.

It took many hours of painstaking work by a professional fossil preparator to reveal the fine bones of these fossil fish from the stone. Surely, it was worth the effort to bring these ancient fish to life!

An exceptional, museum quality piece.

The slab of stone measures 69 x 32 inches, weighs approximately 200 lbs

The large Diplomystus measures 17.75 inches

The Phareodus measures 13.5 inches

Includes a sturdy plywood backing and system to hang slab flush on a wall, in any orientation
