This breathtaking fossil stingray is bound to amaze - it is a snapshot of life on the bottom of a teeming 50 million year old lake.
The stingray swam in ancient Eocene lakes in Wyoming, USA and was found in the famous Green River Formation, known to produce some of the most spectacular vertebrate fossils.
It took hours of painstaking work by a professional fossil preparator to reveal the fine bones of this fossil from the stone. Superb detail with the barbs of the stingray are intact!
Stingrays are cartilaginous fish related to sharks. They have barbed stingers on whip-like tails, which are used for self-defence.
Measures 21 x 13.75 x 0.8 inches. Stingray measure 14.25 x 7.25 inches including tail. Weighs 11 lbs.
